Master Yoshikazu Ikeda is one of the most respected smiths in Sakai. Ikeda-san started blacksmith in his 20s and with over 60 years of blacksmithing experience, he is the current chairman of the Sakai Dentoukougeishi (traditional skilled craftsman) Association. Along with his late brother Tatsuo Ikeda, knives from Ikeda brothers are highly thought after. We are very proud to offer his work.
The knife is made with White 3 steel, oil quenched. This ensures the honyaki knife to have a similar hardness as a regular White 2 kasumi knife. The knife is mirror polished on the hira (where the kanji is engraved), we consider this as a utility choice for a high end single bevel knife, as sharpening the bevel is not mirror polished therefore more suitable for daily use (sharpening).
